We invite artists to submit original artwork for the 3rd Annual Great Falls Holiday Ornament. Submissions are due by Friday, July 19th. Please see details below.
BACKGROUND
The Arts of Great Falls and the Great Falls Citizens Association collaborate each year to create an annual holiday ornament commemorating a historic and well-known landmark in Great Falls, Virginia. Each year, a two-dimensional artwork will be selected for the third annual Holiday Ornament in 2024. The 2022 theme was Great Falls National Park featuring a watercolor painting by Begoña Morton. In 2023 the theme was Georgetown Pike featuring a photograph by Walt Lawrence.
2024 THEME - THE HISTORIC FORESTVILLE SCHOOLHOUSE est. 1889
The 2024 theme is “The Historic Forestville Schoolhouse,” which was built in 1889. Built in 1889 as a one-room school it was expanded in 1911 to include the Floris School. Ultimately, the school closed in 1922. From 1922 to 1959 it was a private residence, then the Great Falls Post Office from 1959 to 1982, and finally a commercial bank. In early 1980s the building was put up for sale; but Great Falls residents pooled their resources and purchased the building, eventually donating it to the Fairfax County Park Authority. Today, the Great Falls Grange Foundation manages daily operations of The Grange and the Historic Schoolhouse.
We hope this unique Great Falls ornament will create holiday spirit and show hometown pride. Last year, we sold 350 ornaments at the Holiday Boutique at Hidden Springs, The Artists’ Atelier, Great Dogs Great Falls and Classic Wines. Proceeds benefit The Arts of Great Falls, Great Falls Citizens Association and the Great Falls Grange Foundation which are all nonprofit 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(7) organizations.

Eligibility: Entry is open to all artists.
ELIGIBILITY RULES
Up to 3 submissions per artist with 1 photo per submission.
All art must be original work created by the artist.
Images must be .jpg format between 300K to 2MB in size.

SELECTION PROCESS
Selection will be based on theme, originality, composition, and visual impact by a committee composed of The Arts of Great Falls and Great Falls Citizens Association members. All decisions of the jury are final. Winning artist will be acknowledged in all holiday ornament marketing and on the back of each ornament.

MARKETING / PUBLICITY
The ornaments will be featured on the Great Falls Citizens Association, The Arts of Great Falls and the Great Falls Grange Foundation websites. Additional publicity will include press releases, social media, and email blasts.
