Description

Celebrating the traditions of The Golden Age of Botanical Illustration (1750-1850), this all-levels watercolor drawing & painting class will explore the steps to capture beautiful and realistic botanical portraits. Tues 4/22, Thu 4/24, Tue 5/13, Th 5/15, Tues 5/27, Thu 6/5. Make up day June 12th. Our weekly practice will include studies of a garden flower still life provided for that week. This class will improve your botanical portrait skills by learning a reliable process of: 1.) initial sketches 2.) revision with trace and transfer 3.) value blocking 4.) color-matching 5.) perspective studies 6.) committing to a final line with which to paint to a finish. This is a great class for those who want to improve their observational skills in still life drawing, and for those who want to learn application strategies for watercolor. We will approach our final work from a place of knowing, process, and confidence. By the end of the session, each student will work towards one final 12” x 16” botanical portrait on 300g cold press watercolor paper ready for framing.
