Description
Jewelry Making with Metal Clay with artist JJ Singh! Learn how easy it is to make a variety of sterling silver charms using a magic material called Metal Clay. Metal clay behaves much like FIMO, Sculpty, or pottery clay. It is soft and can be molded, textured, and shaped with simple tools. After firing metal clay in a kiln it sinters into pure sterling silver, and voila, you have beautiful custom silver charms. Each project will provide an opportunity to make something precious that is completely unique and customizable. A monogrammed charm for a keychain…a zodiac charm for a bracelet… a name engraved on a necklace plate. What will you learn? Working with the clay in its “wet” and “dry” forms Adding texture and ornamentation to your designs Making a mold and “casting” a charm Carving template molds Firing Schedules Sanding and finishing techniques Patinas and polishing Working with UV Resin for a high-gloss finish. Charm school will teach you all the basics of working with metal clay including rolling, stamping, cutting, forming, sanding and finishing. Projects will include a variety of charm styles each intended to teach a specific technique. Applique, stone setting, mold carving, and the use of color are just some of the areas we will explore. Supply List: Sketchbook and Pencil Magnification Glasses (readers are fine) Materials Fee: $150 The materials fee includes all specialty tools and 50 grams of silver metal clay. Additional clay may be purchased in class. Certified as a master metal clay instructor in 2002, and an early member of AMCAW (Alliance for Metal Clay Artists Worldwide), JJ regularly presents at National and International metal clay conferences. JJ’s passion is exploring the intersection where technology meets artistry… where traditional metal smithing meets laser printers, 3-D printers, and design software. JJ teaches in person classes and workshops in her recently expanded light-filled studio in Great Falls, Virginia
