Description

Fall 2023 Class: 5 spots left! Study with an award winning artist! Congratulations to Kim Richards for her first place win in the Labor Day Paint the Town show! In this class you will learn how to sketch outdoors, take multiple reference photos, record accurate colors -- and then bring it all back to the studio to compose a final painting that is your personal creation (not just a copy of a photograph). On the first and fourth week of the class you will work outdoors, taking photos and sketching scenes to combine into a final painting. (In the event of inclement weather, we will work from still life materials in the studio.) You will learn how to hone in on a subject without being overwhelmed by the landscape, how to take better reference photos, and what information you need to record in order to create a beautiful painting from all of your reference materials. In the remaining weeks, you will work on studio paintings based on those reference sketches, color studies and photos. This is a perfect class for those who enjoy spending time outdoors painting, sketching, and soaking up nature, but don't want to finish an entire painting in a single session. It combines the best of plein air with studio skills to help you create thoughtful, well-designed work.
