Learn to breathe life into animal portraits from local artist and host of the podcast, Creative Contemplation, Suzanne Lago Arthur. Suzanne is known for her friendly & straight forward approach to teaching, simplifying complex subjects into easy to remember concepts. In this fun and educational class, Suzanne will share inspiring Animal portraits from art history, featuring such artists as Manet, Rosa Bonheur and Lucien Freud. She will cover the fundamental principles of drawing, composition, value, color mixing & paint handling, skills that once learned, can be applied to many different subjects. Students will work from their own reference that they bring to class on the first day. Week 1: Lecture: Introduction to drawing principles and demo. Student work: Preparatory sketching, creation of final under-drawing. Week2: Lecture: Discussion of the fundamentals of painting and demo. Student work: Begin adding color to canvas. Week 3: Lecture: Animal Portraits in Art History. Student work: Continuation of painting. Week 4: Student Work: Refinement of Painting. Final details. Week 5: Student work: Final detail touch ups. Last class party & student critique. This class is 5 sessions with one Inclement Weather Makeup Date on Feb 29th.
