Description

For the young artist who has successfully completed Beginner Drawing and/or who demonstrates a thorough understanding of perspective and proportions, ages 12 – 15. Students practice their drawing skills in black and white oil on toned canvas pad sheets. Still life objects are studied in exercises called “form studies”, under a single light source. Casts from antiquity will also be introduced. The student practices “the art of the start” of the painting process as well as longer studies. Participants become confident in the handling of paint and in the articulation of value structure to create depth and atmosphere. Students master the following skills: 1). Successfully launching an envelope around the compositional elements in the still life arrangement 2). Successfully determining the correct tilts and angles of the still life arrangement 3). Successfully describing perspective in terms of the planes of the cube and the ellipsis of the circle 4). Consistently separating true light from true shadow 5). Consistently calibrating the value of the overall still life arrangement [All supplies will be provided. A supply fee of $55 for all materials can be paid directly to instructor at the first session]
