Description

Winter 2024 Class Painting from life is great practice, but photographs are often more practical as reference material.  In this class, you will learn fundamental oil painting techniques while painting from a photograph of any subject matter (pets, people, landscapes, flowers -- your choice!) Learn tips and tricks for making the most out of a photographic reference: 1.) How to use the photograph as a source of information instead of copying it. The goal is to make the photo into a beautiful painting! 2.) How to edit the information in your photo: determine what to leave in, what to leave out and what will translate into a good composition. 3.) How to recognize distortion (the camera cannot see like the eye can when it comes to color accuracy, depth of field, and the warms and cools of highlights and shadows). Work on your own projects, whether it be figure, landscape, still life, etc. All levels welcome! Painting and drawing demos will be provided with each class. Marcia paints in oil but acrylic and pastel painters are welcome. The small class size allows for very individualized instruction!
