ABOUT THE CLASS: Step into the vibrant world of watercolor painting and learn to capture the beauty, character, and spirit of animals on paper! Perfect for artists looking to refine their fine art skills or explore new techniques, this hands-on course guides you step-by-step through the fluid medium of watercolor to create compelling wildlife and pet portraits. You will discover how to master essential techniques—such as layering wet-on-wet washes, controlling water-to-pigment ratios, and preserving brilliant highlights—to render soft fur textures, luminous eyes, fine feathers, and believable form. Through targeted demonstrations and individualized feedback, you will learn to build depth and dynamic contrast while embracing watercolor's natural spontaneity, leaving class with polished, expressive animal paintings and the confidence to tackle any creature subject. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Michelle Rudd brings over a decade of art education and child development expertise to the classroom, having led youth art and creative enrichment programs across summer camps, after-school courses, and specialty workshops. Her dynamic curriculum spans traditional figure and portrait drawing to hands-on mixed-media projects. With 11 years of kindergarten teaching experience, three years in special education, and three years as a contractor for the Smithsonian’s All Access Digital Arts Camp, Michelle possesses a deep understanding of how children learn. Her adaptive, inclusive teaching approach ensures that every student—regardless of age or ability—feels supported, engaged, and inspired to express their creativity.
