Character Design with Dmitri Modell

Funny? Cute? Superhero? Mysterious? Action Figure? What kind of character do you want to create? In this beginner level illustration camp, kids will learn how to build a character from scratch. We will explore classical drawing skills of how to draw faces, heads, and bodies in various proportions (both realism and fantasy), as well as how to design clothing, accessories, and personality of a character. We will learn how designing a character means more than just one picture, but the potential for multiple poses in storytelling. By the end of the week, each student will work on finishing either their own original character or a "fan art" version of a known character. INSTRUCTOR BIO: Dmitri Modell is a Virginia Commonwealth University alumni with a passion for completing commissioned works for families, individuals, and anyone who needs aid to solve their creative problems. For the past five years, Dmitri Modell has been creating animations, illustrations, and Graphic Designs for his clients using the Adobe Suite as well as ClipStudioPaint, ProCreate, InfinitePainter, and various other programs used for Digital Art. Dmitri started his artistic journey at a very young age and has continued to develop his skills in all kinds of traditional and digital art forms. Dmitri continues to find new mediums to express his energetic and expressive visuals. Teaching Philosophy: Dmitri Modell believes that artistic ability is a skill to be honed by any person allowing them to bring their mind's eye to reality, making their perspective and emotions more definitive to others and themselves. The creation of art in the world matters to each person differently, but it is essential to the human condition, evolution, and experience. Dmitri always strives to find new ways to improve his creative communication skills and descriptive detail in his work, with new mediums, practices, and inspirations at every turn.
