Description

This course is designed to develop drawing and observational skills in serious young artists. Through the use of complex still life objects such as casts from antiquity, students will practice perspective and proportion under a single light source. Using charcoal on toned paper, participants will learn how to see and successfully articulate monumental shapes of light and shadow, creating the illusion of depth and fully realizing tonal relationships. Throughout the week, we will also introduce the Charles Bargue Drawing Course to further enhance students' mastery of skills. These skills include: 1). successfully launching an envelope around the compositional elements, 2). determining correct tilts and angles, describing perspective, 3). consistently separating true light from true shadow, and 4). calibrating the value of the overall still life arrangement.
