Description

ABOUT THE CLASS: Develop strong observational and drawing skills through the time-tested principles of classical realism. Tailored specifically for serious young artists taking their first drawing class, this foundational course teaches students how to break down complex objects and perceive the world with artistic precision. Working with charcoal on toned paper under a single light source, participants will master three essential techniques: constructing the envelope, separating light from shadow, and accurately utilizing the five-value scale. Through hands-on practice with simple still lifes, students gain practical strategies to articulate monumental shapes, control perspective and proportions, and bring realistic depth and volume to their paper. By training the eye to understand tonal relationships, young creators walk away with the confidence and technical discipline needed for any future artistic endeavor. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Michela Mansuino is an award-winning artist and graduate of Studio Incamminati’s prestigious School of Human Realism in Philadelphia. Combining rigorous classical training with contemporary insight, Michela excels at breaking down complex visual principles into accessible steps. Her supportive, insightful teaching approach helps artists of all skill levels achieve remarkable results and build deep confidence in their classical oil painting techniques.
