ABOUT THE CLASS: Unlock your creative potential and learn how to transform your visual ideas into compelling comic strips! Designed specifically for young storytellers aged 8 to 18, this hands-on course guides students step-by-step through the core principles that make legendary comic books come alive. Young artists will master fundamental drawing and comic creation techniques—such as squash and stretch, building narrative tension, composition in the panel, and structuring storytelling arcs—to make their characters dynamic and expressive. By studying famous comic strips and exploring traditional paper drawing tools, students learn how to convert raw ideas into clean, finished panels. By the end of the class, every participant will walk away with at least 1 completed comic strip of their own creation and a solid foundation in sequential art to continue their creative journey. *Traditional drawing mediums and paper will be used in class for all students. If a student wishes to bring their own digital tablet, additional digital instruction is available if time allows. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Dmitri Modell is an illustrator and graphic designer who earned his degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. With a passion for classical realism and visual problem-solving, Dmitri has spent years creating commissioned works for clients, families, and individuals. His creative expertise spans traditional mediums like charcoal and graphite as well as digital illustration and animation using modern software. Known for his approachable teaching style, Dmitri is dedicated to helping new artists build foundational skills, refine their techniques, and confidently bring their ideas to life.
