Painting the Portrait - Jill Banks

Learn to paint portraits in oil with Jill Banks! This course covers the basic elements of portraiture: composition, mood, gesture, form, structure and features. Models are clothed. Instruction in painting will cover features and how to achieve beautiful skin tones. Model fees are extra, paid directly to the instructor the first day of class. You are welcome to draw in charcoal. I will give a demo for the first part of day one of class. You will be drawing/painting for the second half of that class! Help me hire our models for the class -- Know someone who would enjoy sitting for us? Requirements: reliable, open to the experience, able to hold the pose. Instructor Bio: Highlights of Jill’s 20+-year art journey include her 100 Faces in 100 Days Project in 2011 and many awards. Recently she won Best of Show in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society 2025 Associate Online Exhibit, the Winner’s Circle Award in Paint Great Falls 2025 and Best of Show in the American Impressionist Society 2024 Associate Online Exhibit. Her work has been featured in American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur, PleinAir, Modern Impressionist, élan and Southwest Art magazines.
