ABOUT THE CLASS: Explore the gorgeous, spontaneous medium of watercolor in this immersive four-session outdoor painting series. Designed to build your confidence on location, this hands-on course teaches you how to look at complex natural scenes and effortlessly simplify them into dynamic compositions. Guided step-by-step through weekly painting principles and live demonstrations, you will explore new subjects each session while developing a loose, expressive painting style. With tailored individual guidance as you paint, you will gain practical strategies for choosing subjects, capturing ambient light and atmosphere, and making every brushstroke count. Perfect for beginners and experienced painters alike, you will leave with a versatile set of plein air skills and a fresh approach to watercolor. All skill levels are welcome! ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Vicky Zhou is an award-winning plein air watercolor artist and background architect whose work is celebrated for its vitality, bold color choices, and fluid brushwork. Drawing on her architectural background to understand structure and light, Vicky infuses her paintings with the vibrant life and energy of her surrounding subjects. Her distinctive style leaves a lasting impression, making her work stand out on location and in galleries alike. Passionate about sharing the joys of outdoor painting, Vicky offers a warm, encouraging environment where students of all skill levels can discover their own expressive voice on paper. CLASS SERIES Thursdays | 10:00am - 12:00pm | 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22 *Class cancellation due to teacher illness or inclement weather will be rescheduled for Oct 29th. SUPPLY LIST: Use what you have! Paper: 140lb, 100% cotton, cold press (8x10+ block, pad, or 22x30 sheets cut to size) Brushes: Mop #3 (squirrel or synthetic), round/pointed round #12 and #4 (synthetic) Palette: Metal or plastic with multiple mixing areas Paints (primary warm/cool colors): Alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, cadmium yellow medium, lemon yellow, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, neutral tint Optional colors: Payne's gray, sap green, white, lavender, opera pink Additional: Sketchbook, #B pencil, eraser, spray bottle, water cups, paper towel/rag, board to tape paper on, block to prop board (up to 15°) Questions?
