Description

Storytime Crafts is a drawing class designed for your young artists who love stories, pictures, and imaginative worlds. Ages 8-13 years. All supplies included. Using beloved classic children’s tales as inspiration, students explore how artists tell stories through illustration, without relying on words. Each class invites students to think like illustrators by asking key questions: What is the character doing? How are they feeling, and why? How can we show that through facial expression, body movement, and the world around them? Students will work with four traditional illustration mediums, such as: pencil, colored pencil, pen and ink with watercolor, and pastel. Each medium is paired with a classic story to highlight different storytelling skills. Students begin with pencil drawing while studying real bears in Goldilocks and the Three Bears, learning observation and character posture. They then explore facial expression and emotion through colored pencil while illustrating Humpty Dumpty. In the third class, pen and ink with watercolor are used to create Little Red Riding Hood, focusing on visual clues and hidden story details. The fourth class emphasizes setting and background using pastels to illustrate the homes in The Three Little Pigs. In the final two sessions, students will create a larger, more detailed illustration inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in the medium of choice. Emphasis is placed on planning, creative decision-making, and personal expression. 6 CLASS SERIES DATES: Thursdays 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm. 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30, 5/7, 5/14. Make up day May 28th in case of class cancellation due to instructor illness or inclement weather. No make up on 5/21 due to Paint Great Falls.
